"Prepare to meet your God." Amos 4:12
This command comes ringing down the centuries to us! Who is the God you and I must prepare to meet? He is the Almighty. powerful God who made the universe and us. He is the holy God who hates our sins and cannot leave them unpunished. He is the God who laid our sins on Jesus. He is the God whose love will not let us go.
If you or I had an appointment to meet some well-known, important person, we would certainly get ready. How much more we need to get ready to meet God! Why? Because some day, we will die. We do not know how or when. Will it be by disease? By accident? By natural causes? We do not know. What we do know is that mortality is 100% and that we cannot escape the last enemy: death.
Where will we die? At home? On the street? In a hospital? Alone? Among loved ones? In our sleep? We do not know but "it is appointed unto men once to die." I cannot prepare for you and you cannot prepare for me. Jesus said, "Be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you are not expecting him."
How shall we get ready? By confessing our sins, like the publican Jesus spoke about who prayed, "God, be merciful to me, the sinner," and like the Prodigal Son Jesus also spoke about who prayed, "Father, I have sinned."
Then, keep looking to Jesus in faith and trust.
Finally, do the work he has called you to do. Do it faithfully, knowing that he is watching and waiting for you to finish it.
Then, one day, when our getting ready days are over, you and I will be
Face to face with Christ my Savior,
Face to face - what will it be -
When with rapture I behold him,
Jesus Christ who died for me?
Face to face I shall behold him,
Far beyond the starry sky;
Face to face in all his glory,
I shall see him by and by.
