Why We Pause for Prayer Today

Tomorrow is the National Day of Prayer for all our American friends. As a denomination that works across Canada and the United States, it is an opportunity for all of us to pause throughout our day, come together with our fellow believers, and to sit at the feet of God. We may come with thankfulness, with sadness, with grief, with anger, or with joy—most likely we will come with hearts full of so many confusing emotions this year to seek rest in His loving arms. 

As Safe Church Ministry, the very foundation of the work we do is routed in prayer. We could not do the work that we have been chosen to do without making space for prayer. As we gather as Safe Church staff, we pray. As we gather with our colleagues, we pray. As we gather with our Safe Church Teams, we pray. We have prayer groups that extend to our friends, our families and our communities. As we paused recently to consider how prayer factored into our work, we realized that the circles of prayer we have built around Safe Church are extensive. 

That brings us to the question of why we pray. Why do we feel the need to start our meetings, bringing God into the space? Why do we ask others to pray for Safe Church? 

The answer is simple: We could never do this work without our eyes focused on God. As Safe Church, there is the need for us to quiet our hearts and receive God's gift of love and grace so we can share it with others. We need to pause and listen for God's discernment when we support our community and walk through challenges together. We need to feel God in us and working through us to so we have the confidence to go forward with this work.

We encourage you to join us for this day of prayer. And thanks to all of you who continue to pray for the work we do as Safe Church.
