Sonship Materials and How to Use Them

The Sonship material comes in various formats, some which are shorter and less intensive than others. When considering how to use Sonship, it should be noted that more is better. However, being exposed to the material in any of several formats has value.

Many individuals have been introduced to Sonship through Sonship weeks or weekends when the material is presented in a concentrated format over a short period of time. There is an east coast team in the CRC that is available to conduct Sonship weekends, or what is also called a Gospel Centered Life weekend. The key concepts of the material are presented during this weekend, and then participants are encouraged to go deeper into the material through coaching or in a small group.

The coaching format most often used is the sixteen lesson Sonship manual along with the accompanying CDs, or Mp3. Coaching is either one on one, or if the individual is married, it is recommended that both husband and wife participate in the coaching. This requires either an in person interview or a phone call for one hour twice a month. It can also be used in a small group format, but this usually does not permit intensive personal interaction.

Another format that is used with small groups or for personal study is called Gospel Transformation. Even though this is a thirty-six lesson book, the lessons are shorter and lend themselves better than the Sonship course for small groups or for Sunday school classes.

At present, the most popular format is the Gospel Centered Life. This is a nine lesson format that can be used with small groups or a briefer coaching format. This downloadable material comes in both a study and leader guide.

The final format that was developed to be used, particularly for those who are exploring or are new to Christianity, is called Living in the Light of the Gospel. This is a six lesson book that can be expanded to a twelve week format.
