Books

Consider using one of the following books or portions of them with your worship committee or planning team as part of an ongoing educational plan. You can also check the Reformed Worship archives for articles that may directly relate to a particular challenge your church may be facing.

The Worship Sourcebook

Although it isn’t designed as a study the book is full of teachings about different portions of the worship service, the Christian Year, and leading in prayer.

Wise Church

The church of Jesus Christ is a global church. In Wise Church, you're invited to enter a conversation about worship that draws on the wisdom and experience of Christians around the world.

Based on the document "Worshiping the Triune God," a collection of proverbs on worship adopted by the World Communion of Reformed Churches, this book and study guide offers a global perspective on how and why we worship.

With pictures, testimonies, hymn texts, and reflections on the meaning of communal worship, this study will help any local congregation celebrate the larger body of Christ with whom they are joined every time they gather together. Each session includes an exploration of a section of "Worshiping the Triune God" and questions for reflection. Use this study with your worship team, church staff or council, or small group.

Authentic Worship in a Changing Culture

This popular, expanded study version of the report to Synod 1997 of the Christian Reformed Church helps readers understand the dynamics of biblical worship in our changing culture. It includes discussion of the contemporary forces affecting worship, as well as the theology and dynamics of worship. It also includes discussion questions and suggestions for using this report with worship committees and consistories, or as an adult education course.

Audio Recordings

If you haven't had a chance to listen to GroundWork’s two-part series on worship I encourage you to do so. Also consider sharing the links with your worship committee, musicians, adult education class or small group and have them listen ahead of time in preparation for a discussion or listen to each episode together maybe even breaking each one up over 3 weeks.

  1. Worship: What it Is And Why We Do It
  2. How We Worship

While you are at the GroundWork page put the word "Worship" in the search box and you will find other worship related episodes. I'm telling you this is one of the hidden jewels of the CRC. And it's FREE!!

GroundWork is a radio show produced by ReFrame Media, the English media ministry of Back to God Ministries International
