On Friday, June 17 from 8 am to 12 pm (the morning after Synod concludes), Rev. Paul VanderKlay and John Van Donk will be hosting an introduction to the Estuary Project in Grand Rapids, MI.

The Estuary Project is designed to create meaningful opportunities for pastors to connect with seekers while those seekers are still in the early stages of making up their minds about God, faith, religion, or the church. For those interested in meaningfully connecting with people on the edges of faith, Resonate Global Mission encourages you to consider attending this event.

At the event, participants will compare notes about the challenge of having these kinds of conversations as they seek to gain insight from each other about how to manage such conversations in ways that are pastorally sensitive and responsible.

The event will be hosted at the Prince Conference Center on the campus of Calvin University. Breakfast provided.

To jump-start our conversation you may want to view this YouTube video, which helps us see what our challenge looks like from the perspective of a non-believer looking to the church for help.

The Estuary Project derives its name from that often chaotic and turbulent space where rivers meet the ocean. Estuary is seen as a metaphor for the space between church and world,  a space where ideas and narratives from both church and world intermingle in sometimes chaotic fashion. But also a space where, if we keep coming together, friendships are formed, trust is built, and conversations go deeper.

This event is optional and independent of Synod’s proceedings. Yet delegates and others with interest should feel welcome to register (and arrange their travel accordingly).
