Get to know Ashley, the Coordinator of Synodical Operations at the Office of the General Secretary for the CRCNA.

What's your role at the CRCNA, and how did you come to your position?

I started as an admin specialist for synod. But following the death of Rev. Scott DeVries this past April and the restructuring or the Office of General Secretary, I began to take on more of the logistics and planning of synod and the Council of Delegates.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Due to the scope of my work, each day looks pretty different. Some seasons are full of logistical planning (ie. locations, meal planning, travel) or agenda planning for the Council of Delegates. Other seasons I'm busy into synod planning, including working with the Program Committee, editing overtures and reports, ensuring we have delegates, and helping delegates prepare for synod. Some days are full of emails, some are full of meetings, and some days are a good mix of everything.

What is one thing you've learned while working at the CRCNA?

I've learned how complex people, roles, churches, etc. are. Often people hear one piece of a story but haven't seen the blood, sweat, and tears that have gone into the decisions.

What are you most passionate about in terms of serving and equipping congregations?

I want people to know that we are here to support them. I want congregations to know that we are eager to answer their questions, walk with them, and cheer them on.

What is your favorite thing about your job?

My favorite thing about my job is meeting the synod delegates. From January - May I communicate with the delegates who will be attending synod, getting to know them a little bit. However, on the first day of synod I'm able to put a face to the names that come across my inbox or phone screen. It's such a great and rewarding time!

Thank you so much for all that you do, Ashley!
